It is the name of the medical branch that deals with women’s reproductive health, reproductive organs and pregnancy processes. In addition to focusing on women’s overall health, it also covers a range of diseases and conditions related to reproductive health, childbirth, and pregnancy.
Each procedure or surgery is performed with the purpose of diagnosing, treating, or improving a specific medical condition. You can get more information from any health care provider.
Normal and High-risk Pregnancy Monitoring: Routine pregnancy check-ups, ultrasound examinations, and assessment of the expectant mother’s overall health are performed. Risky pregnancies may require closer follow-up. Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and intrauterine growth restriction can be examples of high-risk pregnancies.
Perinatology: It deals with the examination and management of high-risk pregnancies. If there are potential health issues or complications with the mother or baby, these cases are monitored by perinatologists. This is especially important in pregnancies with pre-existing medical conditions.
Gynaecological Surgeries: It includes surgical treatment of diseases occurring in the female reproductive organs. Problems such as cancer, cysts, fibroids in organs such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes may require surgical intervention.
High Level Ultrasound: It is used to assess and examine the development and anatomy of the foetus in detail. It is used between the 20th-24th weeks of pregnancy and afterwards if needed to monitor the health of the baby.
Amniocentesis: Sampling of the amniotic fluid for the baby in the womb. This test is used to assess genetic disorders or to detect certain diseases.
Genetic Examination: It is performed to identify genetic disorders or anomalies. These tests are crucial for assessing the baby’s health and development.
Menopause: Just like infancy, adolescence, and sexual maturity, it is a natural phase in a woman’s life. During this period, oestrogen production ceases, leading to various changes. Premenopausal and menopause have their own controls and follow-ups.
Family Planning: It refers to consultations, recommendations, examinations, and interventions aimed at helping couples decide on the timing and number of children they wish to have, based on their personal preferences and economic possibilities.
Infertility Treatment: These are methods applied to assist couples who have difficulty in conceiving. These methods may include hormonal treatments, ovulation monitoring, IUI (intrauterine insemination), and IVF (in vitro fertilization).
Ultrasonography: It aims to obtain images of a part of the gynaecological examination or, if necessary, of the baby and other organs in the womb using sound waves. It is used to assess baby development, organ structure, and anomalies.
Amniocenteses: Evaluates the genetic structure and sex of the baby by sampling the amniotic fluid in the womb. It is performed to detect genetic abnormalities.
Cordocentesis: A sample of the baby’s umbilical cord is taken for genetic analysis and to detect other health problems.
Cervical Patency Assessment: The opening of the cervix is performed to assess the risk of preterm labour.
Biophysical Profile Assessment: It enables the assessment of fetal health status by combining the baby’s heart rate and other ultrasonography findings.
Double Test: During the 11th to 14th weeks of pregnancy, a blood sample is taken from the mother to assess the risk of Down Syndrome and other genetic disorders in the baby.
Triple and Quadruple Screening: During the 16th to 18th weeks of pregnancy, a blood sample is taken from the mother to evaluate the risk of Down syndrome and neural tube defects in the baby.
NIPT Test: It is a test that assesses the risk of hereditary diseases in the baby with a sample of the mother’s blood and can be performed after the 10th week of pregnancy.
Detailed Ultrasound: It provides a detailed examination of the baby’s organs, structure and development. It performed between the 20th-24th weeks of pregnancy. It eliminates approximately 70% of the baby’s structural and genetic disabilities. It is completed with Doppler ultrasound and 4D ultrasound.
