Why Is It Important?

  • Obstetricians and gynaecologists address women’s health needs across all stages of life.
  • Early detection and treatment can prevent the progression of many conditions.
  • They ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirth experience.

Important Note:

Regular gynaecological check-ups are essential for maintaining women’s health. Be sure to consult a specialist at recommended intervals to address any concerns or symptoms early.

What Conditions Does Obstetrics and Gynaecology Treat?

Each procedure or treatment is tailored to diagnose, treat, or manage specific health concerns. For more detailed information, consult a healthcare professional. Below are some commonly offered services:

Normal and High-Risk Pregnancy Care

  • Normal Pregnancy: Regular check-ups and ultrasound evaluations are performed to monitor the health of both the mother and baby.
  • High-Risk Pregnancy: Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or fetal growth restriction require closer monitoring and specialized care.

Perinatology (High-Risk Pregnancy Management)

  • Care is provided by perinatologists for pregnancies involving potential health issues in the mother or baby.
  • Particularly important for pregnancies with known health conditions or increased risk of complications.

Gynaecological Surgeries

  • Conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes (e.g., cysts, fibroids, cancers) are treated surgically.
  • Laparoscopic (minimally invasive) or open surgical techniques may be used.

Advanced Ultrasound

  • Detailed ultrasounds are performed to assess fetal growth and anatomy.
  • Often recommended between the 20th and 24th weeks of pregnancy.

Amniocentesis and Genetic Testing

  • Amniocentesis: A sample of amniotic fluid is collected to screen for genetic conditions.
  • Genetic Testing: Evaluates the baby’s health and potential genetic disorders.

Menopause Management

  • A natural phase in a woman’s life characterized by a decrease in oestrogen production, leading to physical and hormonal changes.
  • Regular check-ups are recommended during premenopause (before menopause) and menopause.

Family Planning

  • Supports couples in achieving their desired timing and number of children.
  • Provides information and assistance with birth control options.

Infertility Treatment

  • Assistance for couples struggling to conceive through methods such as hormonal therapy, ovulation tracking, intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Important Note:

Regular gynaecological check-ups are essential for early diagnosis and treatment. If you have any concerns or need more information, consult an obstetrician-gynaecologist.

Diagnosis and Methods

Ultrasonography: A diagnostic imaging method using sound waves to monitor the baby’s development and examine the organs within the mother’s womb. It helps detect developmental issues and anomalies in the baby.

Amniocentesis: A procedure where a sample of amniotic fluid is taken to evaluate the baby’s genetic structure, assess the risk of diseases, and determine the baby’s gender.

Cordocentesis: A test that involves taking a blood sample from the baby’s umbilical cord to perform genetic testing and identify potential health problems.

Cervical Dilation Monitoring: An examination to evaluate the dilation of the cervix and assess the risk of preterm labor.

Biophysical Profile (BPP): Combines ultrasound imaging and fetal heart rate monitoring to evaluate the baby’s overall health status.

First-Trimester Screening (Dual Screening Test): Performed between the 11th and 14th weeks of pregnancy, this blood test measures the risk of genetic conditions like Down syndrome.

Triple and Quadruple Screening Tests: Conducted between the 16th and 18th weeks of pregnancy, these tests assess the risk of Down syndrome and neural tube defects.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT): A test using the mother’s blood to evaluate the baby’s risk of inherited genetic conditions. This test can be performed from the 10th week of pregnancy onward.

Detailed Ultrasound: A detailed examination performed between the 20th and 24th weeks of pregnancy to assess the baby’s organs, anatomy, and development. It also helps identify structural abnormalities and genetic risks.
